Memorial Day 2013

For those who aren't into history, there are two days in the United States that honor our war dead.
The most well-known is Veterans Day, also known as Remembrance Day. It is held on November 11th, for major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour
of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, with the German signing of the armistice.
Memorial Day is a uniquely American holiday, honoring as it does the memory of the soldiers who fought in our own Civil War. Some 600K died in that war, and unlike most there was very little outside interference from the other world powers. It also happened a half-century prior to the trench warfare of World War 1, the first real war America had seen since the Revolution.
So, we get a three-day weekend out of the deal. We plan picnics, maybe do a little vacation road trip, head to the cabin or the lake or whatever. Which is fine.
I'm taking my kids to the cemeteries this weekend. We'll do about 800 miles, visiting graves of family members who've fought in our wars. We'll place lilacs and orchids and whatever other flower we can pull off the homestead this cold, wet spring, and we'll decorate the graves of our forebears who've given their all to pass along a country worth living in to us. And we'll pause and salute, rendering honors earned, and then perhaps enjoy a picnic on the way home.
My kids had better learn these traditions, and keep them. Lest the sacrifice be forgotten and no man step up to defend what is right, what is honorable, what is hearth and home.
Doesn't matter which side of the conflict you agree with, somebody paid in blood to back your opinion. The least we can do is honor those who were committed to the cause.

Battlefield 3
All day.
Well..... starting at about 10:30/11am (Eastern) and running until you can't play anymore.
I'm having a bunch of people over to the house. We're going to "lan-party" it up for the day. You've seen what Wednesday nights are like, let's get it going for the day!
Meet up in TS.
Let's put OUR BF3 server to good use and see if we can get it packed before noon!
Worst case, it's just us running around and having one of the best community games of our lives. It's a win win.
